Observer Network Analyser training - Network Instruments

For you to be able to effectively use the Observer Network Analyser in a logical step-by-step process as a network troubleshooting tool; to be able to employ all available effective troubleshooting techniques to quickly resolve problems in your networks.

Introduction and Overview – General

To be able to partner with the Observer Network Analyser to proactively monitor and baseline your networks; to be able to optimise your network and applications using the information you have gained from the Observer Network Analyser.
Troubleshooting techniques are discussed followed by an explanation of the full product functionality of Observer including which features to use in which circumstances.

• Observer Fundamentals –
  Screen Layout, Help, F1, Version authorisation (for support/downloads), Licences, NIC cards, Configurations, Set-Up, Buttons, Menus, Display Properties.
• Statistics –
  Utilisation: history & bandwidth, Distributions: Protocol, Top Talkers, Packet Size, Errors. Who talks to who: Pairs, Internet Observer. Other tools: Vital signs, Efficiency History.
• Network Trending –
  What it is, use on Local, Remote, SNMP, RMON probes, Trending Viewer, Exporting data for reports in spreadsheets, Web Browser
  viewer.
• Network Names –
  MAC addresses, IP addresses, Name recognition: IP, DNS, IPX, Microsoft, Importing names. Packet Capture – Real-time/offline decodes, Save/recall trace files, Import/Export, Printing traces, Options.
• Filters –
